About us

We see the semiconductor industry as a realm of possibility. We see opportunity. We see the profound impact that our graphene solutions will have in transforming the industry. We invite you to join us in driving change with our fundamentally human-centered approach, uniting bright minds around a shared vision. The vision is: Prove to everybody that you can make a fundamental change. Prove with your knowledge and skills how things can be done differently. Together, we can change the paradigm of how the world connects

About our technology

The semiconductor industry’s growing demand for more powerful chips with higher bandwidth and lower power finds its solution in our technology. We connect chips to high-throughput, low-delay computing networks. The key lies in harnessing the physical properties of graphene to combine electronic computing with photonic communication, allowing countless chips to interact almost as if they were one. Our graphene photonic innovation increases computing power and efficiency to a new order of magnitude In short,

Black Semiconductor GmbH is looking for a Automation Engineer – AMHS (f/m/d) to lead the introduction and implementation of Automated Material Handling Systems (AMHS) at our 300mm Wafer Fabrication plant in Aachen, Germany.

The Role

In this role, you will drive the selection and integration of AMHS technologies, ensuring they meet the requirements for innovation, speed, accuracy, and reliability. You will work closely with operations and technology teams to define system specifications, perform layout assessments, and manage the entire AMHS implementation

To join our team, you should be excited to
  • Lead the pioneering introduction of Automated Material Handling Systems (AMHS) in our 300mm Wafer Fabrication plant in Aachen, Germany
  • Explore and benchmark current AMHS technologies to ensure they meet the requirements for innovation, speed, accuracy, and reliability in the shop floor
  • Drive the successful execution and implementation of AMHS within our new 300mm Wafer Fab
  • Collaborate with operations and technology teams to analyze and define the AMHS system’s functional and non-functional business requirements and specifications
  • Assess the shop floor and define the necessary layout and system design for AMHS, including modeling and simulation to determine the right transport counts, congestion predictors, and bottlenecks
  • Initiate and lead collaboration with AMHS & MCS solution providers to meet implementation goals using Project Management best practices
  • Perform necessary conceptualization, prototyping, pilot testing, and engineering design to achieve the proposed implementation
  • Establish and lead the support teams to ensure smooth 24×7 operation of the AMHS implementation

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or equivalent Technical Degree
  • 7+ years of hands on AMHS Implementation experience within a 200mm or 300mm Wafer Fab, with at least one full AMHS lifecycle implementation experience for senior roles
  • Familiarity with both conveyor and OHT systems with direct tool loading capability is a plus
  • Passionate to work on robots, COBOTs, mechanical automation equipment, design of electromechanical systems, PLCs, motion controls, and navigation systems
  • Good understanding of SEMI Standards, including:
  • E-82: Interbay / Intrabay AMHS SEM
  • E-84: Enhanced Carrier Handoff Parallel I/O Interface
  • E-85: AMHS Stocker to Interbay Transport System Interoperability
  • E-87: Carrier Management SEMI Standards
  • Familiarity with other Factory Integration components such as EI, MES, MCS, Scheduling, Dispatching & SPC is advantageous
  • Ability to comprehend material flow strategies and dynamics in a 200mm or 300mm Wafer Fab
  • Flexible, with the ability to multitask and manage priorities effectively in a frequently changing environment
  • Excellent listening, written, and verbal communication skills, including facilitation, presentation, and documentation production tailored to the audience
  • A “can-do” attitude and self-starter who independently pursues responsibilities
