Description
We are looking for an exceptional individual to join ExoMatter as a Chief AI Engineer. In this role, you will be responsible for developing algorithms for predicting new materials candidates on our Materials R&D platform.
Become part of a young deep tech and software startup based in Munich and revolutionize materials development with us. ExoMatter is a spin-off of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and part of the UnternehmerTUM family of startups. We have a first product on the market with paying customers like Airbus and BSH and a strong upward trajectory.
Why are we doing this?
Our mission is to challenge the status quo of materials development to reduce the worldwide ecological footprint and increase the innovation speed.
We need you to succeed!
Do you think along these lines?
- If you are equally convinced that only with more efficient materials, can we tackle the climate crisis
- You are a maker and want to turn visions into reality. See your impact directly!
You love working in a dynamic team: trusting, exchanging feedback, and taking responsibility is most crucial.
As our Chief AI Engineer, you will be responsible for developing algorithms for predicting new materials, and eventually lead our AI Team.
- You will be responsible for AI and ML at ExoMatter in an expert role
- You will leverage existing and develop new algorithms for the prediction and simulation of new materials (Inverse Design)
- You will initially report directly to the CEO and work closely with our CTO and our Head of Delivery
- You will critically evaluate our existing ML algortihms and bring them to the next level
Ideally, you have a background both in (computational) materials science and AI. If you do not have a background in computational materials science, you should have experience in scientific or engineering-focused AI applications.
- You hold a degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Chemistry, Physics, or similar
- You have 4+ years relevant professional experience
- You are able to work autonomously and don’t require guidance on your subject matter
- You have experience in neural networks
- Fluent in spoken and written English, German skills are a plus
- You live in Munich or want to move to Munich within 3-4 months and are then willing to work ca. 50% of your time on-site
Not required, but a plus:
- Experience working in AI/ML within Materials Science
- Experience in Graph Neural Networks (GNN) and Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINN)
- Experience in High-Performance Computing (HPC)
- Competitive package of salary, (virtual) stock options, and benefits
- Attractive company culture in an early-stage startup
- Public transportation ticket for Munich and entire Germany (Deutschlandticket)
- Flexible work hours with strong focus on work-life balance far beyond industry standard
- Free choice between latest ThinkPads or MacBooks for personal and private use
- Full time position, part-time work possible upon agreement
- Hybrid work with flexible arrangement between on-site work in new Munich office and remote work
Start date: 1 March 2025.
