GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung in Darmstadt operates one of the leading particle accelerators for science. Currently, the new FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) one of the world’s largest research projects, will be built in international cooperation. GSI and FAIR offer the opportunity to work together in this international environment with a team of employees committed to ensure each day to conduct world-class science.

Engineering (ENG) with its organizational units Mechanical Design (MDS), Mechanical Integration (MIN) and NC Magnets and Alignment (NCM), performs central tasks in the field of mechanical engineering for GSI and FAIR. This includes concept development together with the requesting specialist departments, design and production support through to the digital integration of all mechanical system components. Engineering is also in charge of the complete system responsibility for all required normal-conducting magnets for the campus and the fine adjustment of all relevant accelerator parts. In its function, Engineering acts as a scientific and technical service provider for all scientific and technical facilities on campus.
