Laboratory Manager/Technician (m/f/d): Spatial Metabolomics

We are looking for a motivated individual who has a background in chemistry/biological/biomedical engineering/applied biochemical sciences with a good understanding of wet laboratory functioning. The individual will be in charge of lab safety for multiple labs and will be involved in upkeeping high standards of good lab practice (GLP). Day-to-day management of lab instrumentation will also be a focus, with assistance in projects for sample preparation and developments. Working alongside students and other faculty, the person will be accountable for managing and communicating with external partners and also internal ordering of lab consumables.

  • Managing and maintaining mass spectrometry instrumentation – calibration and weekly maintenances with troubleshooting – includes matrix assisted laser desorption ionization (MALDI) and liquid chromatography (LC) mass spectrometry
  • Handling and preparation of mammalian tissues for cryosectioning and microscopy-style techniques including histochemistry techniques
  • Take charge of lab safety, and co-ordination with the chemical safety team
  • Handling of group consumable purchasing
  • Management of external partner samples and record keeping
  • Preparation of basic analytical lab processes – training can be included
  • Good communication with team members

  • University degree (Master or Bachelor) in relevant sciences or relevant working experience (3 years lab work)
  • Essential to have practical lab experience, a background in analytical sciences is desired
  • Experience in biological sample preparation such as metabolite extract, biological material preparations and desirably cryosectioning experience
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work in a within a multifaceted team
  • Good knowledge of English (essential) with German (desired)
  • Willingness to learn new techniques and work with student colleagues
