Description
eleQtron develops and operates full-stack quantum computers based on trapped-ion technology. Quantum computing is a new computing paradigm rapidly approaching commercial viability. Our unique approach combines laser-cooled trapped ions with microwave control and tailored magnetic fields. Our next-generation computing machines under development will be able to find solutions to problems that are out of reach today, thus enabling new innovative products and services for a brighter future.
As a Quantum Software Architect, you will take the lead on compiler architecture, software optimisation, and HW/SW co-design. You will define the structure of our quantum software stack across both front-end and back-end compilers, ensure it scales with our architecture, and contribute to the broader technology roadmap. This is a key position for someone who has done this before and wants to help shape what quantum computing looks like in practice.
- Design and specify the compiler front-end (quantum language), back-end (machine-specific), and cross-stack optimisation strategies
- Lead performance analysis and scaling of quantum algorithms across architectural targets
- Drive hardware-software co-design with our design teams
- Ensure clean, testable, and scalable implementation standards within the quantum software team
- Conduct technology scouting to identify relevant algorithmic and architectural trends
- Maintain the software side of the quantum roadmap – balancing research, system fit, and implementation realities
- Contribute to requirements engineering and design decisions across the stack (e.g. trap configurations, scaling thresholds)
Required Skills:
- A Master’s or PhD in computer science, physics, or engineering
- 3+ years in industry or R&D with strong delivery in quantum compiler or architecture-focused roles
- Deep expertise in quantum algorithms, quantum circuit design, and compiler optimisation
- Knowledge of quantum error correction methods and architectural trade-offs
- Strong experience with quantum programming frameworks like Qiskit or Cirq
- Fluency in Python and at least one lower-level language such as Rust or C++
- A structured, curious, and collaborative working style with strong written and verbal communication skills
We value:
- Experience designing or implementing quantum compilers in a product-oriented environment
- Experience driving cross-functional co-design efforts between hardware and software teams
- Initiating roadmap-impacting decisions with real implementation consequences
- Full time
- Hamburg or Siegen
