We are looking for a seasoned and accomplished Reliability Maintenance Engineering (RME) Manager to join our team at Amazon. In this senior leadership role, you will be responsible for managing a team of RME Area Managers, Engineers and Technicians to ensure the reliability and maintainability of our equipment and systems across a number of sites in our German transportation network.

As the RME Manager, you will be a key member of the wider RME team and are responsible for ensuring that our equipment and systems operate safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime. You will lead a team of experienced professionals and collaborate with cross-functional teams across your network to optimize equipment performance and reduce costs.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of success in managing maintenance operations in an industrial or manufacturing environment, as well as a passion for innovation, customer focus, and operational excellence. You will bring a strategic mindset, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to think creatively to solve complex problems. As a regional RME Manager, you demonstrate a high level of technical expertise, senior leadership skills, and strategic thinking to effectively manage the cluster of sites. This role is expected to focus on standardization initiatives across the sites to ensure consistency and efficiency.

You will be a role model in setting a high bar for performance within their team, supported by SMART goals for each team member. A strong and engaging people manager who understands that success is delivered when the team is fully engaged on common goals and that success is measured by internal and external customer satisfaction.

This role will require frequent site visits to build and maintain the relationship with the onsite teams, however you will have working time flexibility.

  • Leading and developing a team of managers, maintenance technicians and engineers to ensure the safe and efficient operation of all equipment and systems.
  • Managing the maintenance program for all equipment and systems, including creating preventative maintenance plans and schedules.
  • Identifying and addressing equipment and system failures and developing root cause analysis plans to prevent future failures.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve equipment and system reliability, reduce downtime, and optimize equipment performance.
  • Developing and managing the departmental budget, ensuring the efficient use of resources to meet operational and financial goals.
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards, including environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Communicating regularly with regional leader, the managing director, senior management and stakeholders to provide updates on the roadmaps, equipment and system performance, maintenance activities, and improvement initiatives.
  • Participating in the development and implementation of new equipment and systems, providing input on reliability and maintainability requirements.
  • Lead regional programs and initiatives, collaborating with other sites and teams across the region to identify and share best practices.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Several years of experience managing a maintenance, service or technical team in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with reliability-centered maintenance practices and techniques.
  • Experience with maintenance management software and systems.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and controls systems.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written with the ability to communicate effectively with senior-level management.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a high-performing team.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to use data to drive decisions.
  • Fluent in German and English (verbal and written).

Preferred qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Engineering or related field or MBA from a top tier business school.
  • Experience in a leadership role in a high-volume production environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a focus on meeting customer needs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with robotics and automation systems.
  • Experience managing maintenance operations across multiple sites.
  • Knowledge of German labor laws and regulations.
