Canada’s official representation in Germany includes the Embassy of Canada in Berlin, as well as the Consulates in Düsseldorf and Munich. Members of the team work in a fast-paced multidisciplinary and international environment. The role of the three offices and their more than 100 Canada-based and locally engaged staff is to develop the relationship between Canada and Germany across a number of areas.

Senior Trade Officer (m/f/d)
Working under the general direction of the Senior Trade Commissioner & Head of Office, the successful candidate is responsible for the delivery of the commercial program at the Consulate of Canada in Munich, with focus on the Auto & Critical Minerals sectors for Germany.
Major responsibilities of the position include:
- providing high quality service to Canadian clients
- proactively developing and maintaining a solid network of contacts in Germany
- promoting investment into Canada
- preparing and disseminating market intelligence to Canadian clients
- initiating, organizing and managing promotional activities and trade delegations as well as other international business development activities, such as participation at trade shows and advocating for Canadian commercial interests.
The Senior Trade Officer’s main focus is identifying and qualifying business opportunities for Canadian companies, and guiding them in the local market. This includes budget planning, management of resources and the development of regional trade promotion strategies. The Senior Trade Officer must demonstrate quantifiable performance indicators including quality and number of services provided to clients and generation of leads for sales and investment in the relevant sectors.
Essential qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and an advanced level of English and German at approximately C1 level.
The ideal candidate has a minimum of five (5) years of recent and direct experience in international business development as a Trade Commissioner (or International Business Development Officer) or a similar/equivalent role, including directly managing client relationships and providing high quality services to customers/clients. Recent is defined as within the past ten (10) years.
In addition, the ideal candidate has experience in providing strategic advice and written reports to management and/or clients on business related issues and experience in organising and leading major projects, promotional events and/or international delegation visits.
The position is full-time (37.5 hours per week) and indeterminate. The starting salary is 87,813 EUR gross per annum. As per current terms and conditions (periodically reviewed) additional benefits include a yearly bonus of 13th month´s salary, a 14th half month’s salary bonus, 30 days of annual leave and a performance based annual salary increase.
