The Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion (MPI CEC) in Mülheim an der Ruhr studies fundamental chemical processes for energy storage in chemical molecules.

The NFDI project, which is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, aims to advance the development of the digital infrastructure. To this end, the data from an electronic labora­tory note­book, the measuring instruments, and existing data storage devices will be stored and mana­ged in a data lake at the insti­tute level according to the FAIR principle (Findable, Accessible, Inter­operable and Reusable). In addition, a cross-institutio­nal interface to similar systems is desired. This will be developed in collaboration with the NFDI4Cat consortium.

The position is to be filled as soon as possible and is for a fixed term until the end of the project (September 2025). We are looking for a

Software Engineer (m/f/div) – Data Lake Architect

  • Programming and further development of a previously designed software architecture
  • Frontend and backend development
  • Implement a use case

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in data science, engineering, or computer science or a comparable degree
  • Extensive Python knowledge
  • Good knowledge of the German and English language (spoken and written) is necessary

We are looking for a self-motivated individual who can work independently, goal-oriented, and systematically. A high degree of initiative, creativity, and collaborative skills are required.

Employees are paid according to the German public service pay scale (TVöD) and the corresponding social bene­fits. The institute has a flextime system with core working hours from 9.00 to 16.00 (Friday to 15.00). In addition, it is possible to work from home two days per week.
