I’m John, Head of Research & Development, at VoltStorage GmbH, a Munich-based start-up with currently about 75 employees. In 2016, Michael, Jakob and Felix founded VoltStorage. Our vision was and is to make renewable energy available 24/7 to enable a green, sustainable and fair future. As an expert for stationary flow batteries, we want to cover all application areas of stationary battery storage systems with our multi-technological approach and thus contribute significantly to the energy transition.
To keep our big project moving forward, I am currently looking for a
Senior Electrochemical Systems R&D Engineer – Iron Salt Battery (m/f/d).
You will play a vital role in advancing our Iron Salt Battery technology through electrochemical systems development, modeling, and scaling from bench top to pilot scale.
- Become an expert in the Iron Salt Battery electrochemical systems and submodules
- Design and execute experiments to characterize subsystems and gather critical data for scaling
- Develop mathematical models of the battery systems based on mass and energy balances and electrochemistry
- Innovate and challenge existing assumptions to enhance module concepts and generate valuable intellectual property
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (including mechanical engineering, software development, and electronics) to support system automation, engineering, and scaling
- Lead root cause analyses to enhance system reliability and performance
- Continuously evaluate and enhance testing methodologies, ensuring accuracy, repeatability, and efficiency
- Masters degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Electrochemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics or related field
- Proficient in describing electrochemical systems using mass and energy balances and electrochemical relationships
- 3-5 years professional experience in battery, fuel cell, or electrolyzer development and innovation
- Strong knowledge of electrochemical testing methodologies, including electrochemical analytical techniques, cell performance evaluation, and environmental testing
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines
- Adaptability to evolving project requirements and a dynamic research environment
